Thorntons digital Christmas campaign

Thorntons appointed us to design and deliver their 2011 Christmas campaign. The campaign had to be engaging, inspiring and emotive.
A predominantly digital campaign was devised, targeting both the corporate and consumer audience. Our strategy was to re-establish Thorntons’ gifts as a Christmas tradition in the hearts and minds of customers through the integrated theme of the campaign: “Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without… Thorntons”.
At the heart of the campaign was Thorntons’ first ever social media application – a bespoke Facebook app (click to view). An interactive snowglobe shared daily special offers plus interesting and amusing facts about popular Christmas traditions and memories. To celebrate 100 years of Thorntons, 100 personalised boxes of chocolates were up for grabs when you uploaded your Christmas photos. And a Thorntons Christmas hamper could be won simply by voting for the one thing that ‘Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without’.
To support the Facebook app, we created a range of consumer and business-facing collateral to drive sales on and off line.
And it got results. A 13% increase in visitors to Thorntons’ website and a 23% increase in online orders compared to last year. Thorntons’ total Facebook followers increased by 15% with over 5,300 app installs, far exceeding Thorntons’ expectations.
